At Steven’s Creek Quarry we believe that a community needs both environmental and economic sustainability to thrive.

Welcome to Ranch 35

Stevens Creek Quarry (SCQ), our family-owned and operated company, is applying to San Benito County to open the Ranch 35 Quarry located near San Juan Bautista and adjacent to our existing Williams Quarry near Highway 156.

Ranch 35 will continue to supply the region with a reliable local source of aggregate materials essential for building and maintaining infrastructure, creating good jobs, and contributing to the County’s economy. The site also provides a major benefit by recycling construction and asphalt materials and keeping it out of the landfills.

The Ranch 35 project utilizes sustainability principles and practices that reduce carbon emissions, prioritize safety, and preserve the environment. We are committed to being good neighbors and operating safely and responsibly.

Who We Are

Ranch 35 is owned by the Voss family who have operated SCQ since 1936 making it one of the few long-standing family businesses in the Bay Area. Today, Jason Voss, SCQ’s Chief Operations Officer, represents the fourth generation of service.

We are proud to be part of San Benito County for the past 20 years, operating our Williams San Juan Bautista Plant. From this location we supply materials throughout San Benito County for ongoing infrastructure projects by the City of San Juan Bautista, City of Hollister, Sunnyslope County Water, San Benito Water District, and PG & E.

For over 80 years our goal has been to provide exemplary customer service and satisfaction from our five sites in Alameda, Santa Clara, and San Benito Counties. Being local and nearby means that quality materials travel shorter distances to public and private jobs sites resulting in greatly reduced air emissions.

Project Overview

  • Located near SCQ’s Williams Quarry at 1275 Anzar Road, Ranch 35 includes mining, processing, and recycling operations that provide a long-term, dependable source of high-quality aggregates to meet current and projected future demand for construction materials.

  • The site consists of 271 acres, of which only 67 acres will be quarried, 130 acres used for offices, stockpiles, and processing plants, and the remaining acreage used for cattle grazing.

  • No drilling or blasting to break up aggregate materials is being proposed, and the project will not include an asphalt or concrete plant.

  • The project will provide substantial sales tax and property tax revenues to the County General Fund, along with the per ton Royalty for the County RMA Fund.

  • Ranch 35 will utilize an existing ingress/egress from Hwy 156, with all trucks exiting making a right turn onto Westbound Hwy 156

  • The project will create local skilled worker jobs that pay above average wages and generate increased secondary expenditures in local communities.

  • Ranch 35 will recycle concrete and asphalt for reuse, assisting the County in meeting State mandates for local recycling and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

  • The project will maintain a 100-year-old ranching operation with ongoing agricultural production concurrent with mine operations; once complete, the land will be responsibly returned to agricultural rangeland use.

Sustainability

We believe that a community needs both environmental and economic sustainability to thrive. Ranch 35 adds positive benefits to the County’s economy with good paying jobs and activities that support public works, local businesses, independent contractors and civic organizations.

Our native and recycled construction materials provide for roads, schools, homes, recreational opportunities, bike paths and other infrastructure needs that a first-rate quality of life requires.

At the same time maintaining environmental sustainability is attained with careful attention to our ecological resources, using renewable diesel for our trucks, diverting broken concrete and asphalt from landfills, and caring for habitat by reducing or avoiding any effect from our operation.

In addition, Ranch 35 will have acreage specifically dedicated to cattle ranching and farming.
